Skin care during the rainy season

During the rainy season, you need to be more careful with your skin care

June...Okinawa already entered the rainy season in May, and other regions usually enter the rainy season around mid-June, but what will happen with the rainy season this year? As climate change due to global warming continues, there are concerns about the timing of the rainy season and severe weather such as torrential rains.

While the state of emergency due to the new coronavirus has been lifted, people are being asked to practice a "new lifestyle," and so your lifestyle is likely changing as well. This time, we will focus on skin care tips that you can use after the rainy season begins.

Skin conditions change dramatically after the rainy season begins

1. Humidity and sweating
There is a term called the "discomfort index," and it is said that the majority of people feel uncomfortable when the humidity exceeds 75%. In the example of Tokyo in June last year, the humidity was over 75% for more than two-thirds of the month, and uncomfortable days continued. High humidity is a good environment for the skin in terms of moisturizing, but it also makes you more likely to sweat. Be conscious of your skin care routine as a measure against sweating by wiping off sweat frequently, washing it off with face wash, and replenishing the moisture and minerals excreted as sweat.

2. Rising temperatures and increased sebum secretion
As the temperature and humidity rise in June, sebum secretion also increases, so you need to be careful about sebum stains. Sebum stains can cause acne when mixed with waste products from sweating, and can also cause dull skin due to irregular skin texture. It can also disrupt the turnover of keratin, leading to a condition called keratin thickening, which makes the skin rough. Keratin with disrupted turnover can also accumulate melanin produced by ultraviolet rays, causing dullness and blemishes. June is a very high month for skin problems caused by dirt.

3. Air conditioning begins, and dryness hits
Air conditioning and dehumidification begin on public transport and indoors. Even though the humidity outside is high, the air conditioner inside the car or indoors makes it dry. The fluctuating humidity levels throughout the day can be stressful for the skin. It's important to be mindful of moisturizing care as a countermeasure.

4. Don't let your guard down against UV rays, even on cloudy days
On sunny days, maximum UV protection is necessary, but even on cloudy days, UVA rays, which are said to cause photoaging, shine down on the skin at the highest level in the year. So, you should never let your guard down, even on cloudy days.

Skin care during the rainy season

In June, as temperatures and humidity rise, sebum production also increases, so be sure to pay attention to proper cleansing and washing of your face!

cleansing
Both sebum and makeup stains are oily. Emulsification is the process of thoroughly dissolving oil into water, but Axesia believes that cleansing that lifts up dirt and emulsifies it on the surface of the skin, rather than scrubbing it off, is a cleansing method that is gentle on the skin. Start with the T-zone, which is prone to sebum production, then the U-zone, then move on to the area around the eyes, and finally lift up and emulsify the dirt on the entire face.

Facial cleansing
Use a foaming net and choose a facial cleanser that will foam up like whipped cream with a small amount of lukewarm water or cold water. Like laundry detergent, the foaming power when it pops will re-approach the dirt in the stratum corneum. It is less harsh on the skin than chemical cleansing ingredients, and the foaming power thoroughly washes away dirt that has been lifted and emulsified by cleansing.
